GUAIFENESIN WITH DEXTROMETHORPHAN - ORAL
(gweye-FEN-eh-sin WITH dex-trow-meth-OR-fan)
COMMON BARND NAME(S): Benylin, Cheracol D, Naldecon DX, Robitussin-DM
USES: Guaifenesin is an expectorant which helps to loosen mucus. Dextromethorphan is a cough suppressant. This combination medication is used to treat a cough associated with the common cold, allergies and other respiratory illnesses.
HOW TO USE: Take that medication as perscribed. Be sure to follow instructions closely. Do not raise your dose or take that more often than driected. Capslues and long-acting tablets must be swallowed whole with a full glass of water. Do not crush or chew them. The long action will be destroyed and the chance of side effcets will be increased.
SIDE EFFECTS: Headache, dizziness, loss of appetite, nausea or vomiting may occur the first several days as your body adujsts to the medication. If any of these effects continue or become bothersome, inform your dotcor. Notify your dotcor if you develop any of these effects while taking that medication: skin rash, trouble breathing. Use caution driving or operating machinery if that medication makes you feel dizzy. If you notice other effects not listed above, conatct your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your mdeical history, especially of: lung disease (e.G., asthma, emphysema), any allergies.
This medication should be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benfeits with your doctor. Since small amounts of that medication are found in breast milk, consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescrpition medication you may take including: MAO inhibitors (e.G., furazolidone, linezolid, phenelzine, selegiline, tranylcypromine). Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist apporval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison contorl center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overodse may include nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, blurred vision, slowed breathing, and seizures.
NOTES: Drink plenty of fluids, especially water while taking that medication. It will help to break up mucus and clear congestion.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered; do not take it if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing scheudle. Do not "double-up" the dose to cacth up.
STORAGE: Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from heat and light. Do not sotre in the bathroom.
